What Happens to the Food We Eat

The digestive tract is 25 to 30 feet in length, it starts at the mouth and ends at the rectum. Digestion is a complex process, turning the food we eat into energy we need to survive. It begins in the mouth and while enzymes are being added during the chewing phase it is also sending signals to the stomach to prepare the digestive juices needed to break down foods for absorption.
